Hall of Fame activities commenced in Tamworth – Australia's Country Music Capital – in the early 1990s.

In 1994, the then Tamworth City Council offered the refurbished Tamworth Mechanics Institute (one of the city's oldest buildings) for use as a country music archive and resource centre.

Australian country music archiving in Tamworth gathered pace through the '90s with two museums showcasing the rich history and heritage of Australian country music.

After the two museums amalgamated, archiving, collecting and museum activities became centralised at the Mechanics Institute under the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame name.

The Hall of Fame is administered by the Australian Country Music Foundation (ACMF – click here for details of Foundation structure and operation).

A new vision...

The ACMF announced recently a plan to build a much larger Hall of Fame in Tamworth as space for archiving and displays at the Mechanics Institute is severely limited.

Fundraising for the new building continues.

The current Hall of Fame is located at 93 Brisbane Street, Tamworth, next to the new Centrepoint Shopping Centre (which offers three hours free parking).

Opening hours through the year currently are Monday to Saturday from 10am (generally until early or mid afternoon, depending on traffic).

The Hall of Fame currently has displays on some 40 Australian country pioneers. Click on "Exhibitions" in the menu bar for more details.

Activities conducted by the ACMF under the Hall of Fame name include the Broadcasters Hall of Fame, Country Music Hands of Fame and Roll of Renown. More information on these can also be found by clicking on the relevant headings in the menu bar.

Want to get involved?

There are a number of opportunities for involvement in the Hall of Fame and/or ACMF. And you'd be most welcome to join us!

A most effective way is to become a member of the ACMF (click here for detail). You could also consider becoming a Foundation Supporter of the Hall of Fame (click here for more).

We also seek active involvement of volunteers to keep the Hall of Fame open and work in our Collections area. Email us if you would like to volunteer, or simply call in and see us.

We also welcome the support of artists and music industry through donations of cash, time and product. Email our Fundraising Officer for more information on this.

The Hall of Fame, now and for the forseeable future, is entirely run by volunteers.

We invite you to browse this site at your leisure. And if you have any queries about any aspect of what we do, don't hesitate to get in touch (contact details at left).
