The Australian Country Music
Foundation activities commenced in Tamworth – Australia's Country Music Capital – in the early 1990s.
In 1994, the then Tamworth City Council offered the refurbished Tamworth Mechanics Institute (one of the city's oldest buildings) for use as a country music archive and resource centre.
Australian country music archiving in Tamworth gathered pace through the '90s with two museums showcasing the rich history and heritage of Australian country music.
After the two museums amalgamated, archiving, collecting and museum activities became centralised at the Mechanics Institute under the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame name.
The Hall of Fame is administered by the
Australian Country Music Foundation
The current Hall of Fame is located at 93 Brisbane Street, Tamworth, next to the new Centrepoint Shopping Centre (which offers three hours free parking).
Opening hours through the year currently are Monday to
Friday from 10am to 4pm and on Saturday from 10am to 2pm. During the Festivals
the hours are extended from 9am to 5pm daily.
The Hall of Fame currently has displays on some 40 Australian country pioneers. Click on "Exhibitions" in the menu bar for more details.
Activities conducted by the ACMF under the Hall of Fame name include the Broadcasters Hall of Fame, Country Music Hands of Fame and Roll of Renown. More information on these can also be found by clicking on the relevant headings in the menu bar.
